Do cities and towns have laws about dogs in Massachusetts?

Cities and towns may establish regulation of dogs such as:

  • Dog licensing;
  • Dog fees;
  • Appointment of dog officers;
  • Procedures for the investigation of damage caused by dogs; and
  • Restraining dogs (G.L. c. 140 s. 147B).

So if you have a question about your dog or a neighborhood dog, you may find the answer in your city or town by-laws and regulations.
